NW Alpaca Showcase 2011

The NW Alpaca Showcase is held at the TRAC Center in Pasco, WA and hosted by the Pacific NW Alpaca Association.  It is always one of my favorite shows because of the warm weather and great RV site right outside the alpaca barn.  It was our 2nd show so our juvenile alpacas had a little more experience riding in the trailer and being in such a strange environment.  With the dry weather and cold breezy barn, it was ideal conditions to show off beautiful fine alpaca fleeces.  We again were entered in Halter classes, Production class and the fleece show.  Hard to not smile when you start out the show with a Blue Ribbon in Bred and Owned Yearling Female, our girl Moonshadow's Just Too Cute (JT) walked in the ring and strutted her stuff well for the judge!  JT went on to take a 3rd Place in her halter class and another Blue Ribbon in her fleece class, as well as receiving the "Best Hand" award for the softness of her fleece.  Nice haul for one alpaca!

All our alpacas placed well in very competitive classes, we were really thrilled with the outcome.  One of the other big highlights for us was our Moonshadow's Special T being awarded a Blue Ribbon in the dark brown juvenile female class.  She is not only special to us because she is out of our home grown Herd Sire, Moonshadow's Gunslinger, but she had such a difficult birth we almost lost her at birth.  She spent her first night in the house with us to try and keep her alive until she was strong enough to stand.  She will always be a special girl to us!

As always, the shows are full of excitement.  Surrounded by people who are as excited about raising alpacas as we are and never get tired of talking about their special alpacas and impending cria due this year.  Show season is over for us now this spring, onto planning for shearing and then watching for our first cria of the year.  Oh the anticipation!
